A portrait of mom and dad

My new portrait painting By Carmen Tomé
July 16th, 2013

My new portrait painting is of my Mom and Dad. I had taken a couple quick shots of them at a picnic table a couple years ago and used this as reference to paint. Done in mixed media, the painting was created on canvas with plaster (that I made) and acrylic for an old world ambience. The paint was rubbed off here and there, with acrylic yellow ochre, sienna, bronze and gold glaze settling in cracked texture.. Then two rectangles were gessoed in multiple layers and sanded down for smoothness and where I would paint them in acrylic, pencils and glazes. I wanted to depict them individually since they are living separately due to illness, but united by over 50 years of love and marriage as represented by the golden bar between them… an Enduring Love.
