I live right along the river in Oliver, BC, and have been spending a lot of time in the serenity of it. This Heron thought the same

SANCTUARY

Just ahead after the last bridge, the one with wild water, there is this quiet place, a SANCTUARY, where anyone can sit and just be. The view directly ahead is an island. Another island, a very small one beside it,
has been submerged by a swollen river in July, jagged rocks poking through and geese doing their playful dance. It is peaceful here at any time of day. It invites to stay and experience. Sometimes, if someone is there already, I press on to another quiet escape along the river.

A NEW DAY

Just after the winter, the river has receded leaving small rocky beaches and little islands that will stay for a few months. The light is so beautiful and welcoming in the early morning.

THE SOUND OF SILENCE IN THE EARLY MORNING

I love standing in the middle of the bridge at that time of day.

SUMMERTIME AND THE LIVING IS EASY

Last year, it was another bright morning as I was walking and saw this heron in flight. Running, I followed and saw it land on the other side of the river. It seemed to not have a care in the world. Regal.

Struck with no words. Just feeling ... a theater of wonder, the sounds of awe. Powerful nature, and a solitary sense of calm.
